Darts star Gerwyn Price came from behind to clinch a PDC title on the fourth day of the PDC Autumn Series on Tuesday night (September 15).

Price, 35, from Markham, came back from 7-4 down to beat South Africa’s Devon Petersen 8-7 in Niedernhausen, Germany.

It means Price, who is ranked third on the PDC (Professional Darts Corportation) order of merit, has now won 12 PDC crowns.

Price said: “I’m happy that I’ve won. Devon played well in the final and probably deserved to win.

“Every time I play Devon he plays well against me. I was up and down today and I wasn’t the best in the final, Devon flew out of the blocks but I hung in there.

“When he got to seven legs I just thought to keep digging in and if he missed chances I’ve got to pop them, and that’s what happened. It was tough

“The first three days I’ve been losing with high averages, today I didn’t play so well but I won.”

On his way to the final, Price defeated Newport’s Nick Kenny 6-1, before earning wins over Martin Schindler of Germany and Australia’s Damon Heta.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Price then beat Scotsman Ryan Murray 6-0 in the last 16, before defeating Austria’s Mensur Suljovic 6-4 in the quarter finals.

Price then beat Englishman Ryan Searle 7-2 in the semi-final before his victory over Petersen.

The title win comes after Price missed out on a place in the Premier League Darts semi-finals.

Premier League Darts returned in August having been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, with fixtures played behind closed doors in Milton Keynes.

The Iceman said: “I wanted to get into the play-offs of the Premier League but that didn’t happen.

“It’s been tough playing all those Premier League nights followed by another five tournaments here but I’m enjoying it.”

The PDC Autumn Series returns for its final night of action on Wednesday, September 16.
