A review into the number of residents receiving a 25% council tax discount is set to be carried out by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Single Person Discount is available to any adult in the borough who is the sole adult occupant of a property.

The council will be sending residents claiming the discount a letter asking them to confirm if there has been any change in their circumstances.

Residents who don’t respond to the letter will have their discount taken away.

Councillor Eluned Stenner, council cabinet member for finance, performance and customer service, said: “While we know the vast majority of our residents are correctly claiming any council tax discounts they receive, unfortunately there remains a very small minority that are not.

“We must take any fraudulent claims seriously, and as a council we are very proactive in confirming all discount entitlements.

“This simple review exercise will help ensure that those entitled to such discounts continue to receive them, while making sure that any changes in circumstances are reviewed and recorded.”

The council’s tax team can be contacted on 01443 863002 or counciltax@caerphilly.gov.uk
