A passenger bus was destroyed when it burst into flames on a residential street in Abercarn yesterday (Tuesday, October 27).

Eyewitnesses said the Harris Coaches bus was coming up the hill towards Penrhiw Terrace when smoke started coming out of the back of it.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the emergency call was received at 11.35am and that a crew arrived at 11.50am.

She said: “Crews from Risca and Aberbargoed station attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

“The incident concluded at approximately 12.26pm.”

A spokeswoman for Harris Coaches told Caerphilly Observer an investigation was underway to find the cause of the fire and that the bus driver escaped uninjured.
