Self-isolation period reduced from 14 days in Wales

The coronavirus self-isolation period will be reduced from 14 days to ten days in Wales.

The new measure will come into place on Thursday, December 10.

Welsh Government made the announcement after it was endorsed by the chief medical officer for Wales, Dr Frank Atherton.

Currently, those who have been in contact with people who have tested positive for or shown symptoms of coronavirus, as well as people who have returned from a country with high coronavirus rates, are required to self-isolate for 14 days, unless they test positive for the virus – then they have to self-isolate for a period of ten days from the date of the positive test.

Wales’ Health Minister, Vaughan Gething, said: “We know that self-isolating is hard for people and we believe families, communities and business will welcome the announcement today to safely reduce the days in which people have to self-isolate.

“Self-isolation and quarantine play a key role in stopping the spread of the coronavirus and I want to thank everyone who continues to follow the rules and play their role in keeping Wales safe.”
