Coronavirus vaccine

Every household in Wales is set to receive a letter detailing Welsh Government’s coronavirus vaccination plans.

The letters will be sent out “over the next couple of weeks” and will be issued by local councils on behalf of Welsh Government.

The letters will contain information about the vaccine rollout and how people will be invited for their vaccine appointment.

Welsh Government has said each letter will be tailored to include relevant local information.

Mass vaccination centre now up and running

To date, more than 90,000 people in Wales have received their first coronavirus vaccine dose.

It is hoped all eligible adults in Wales will be offered a coronavirus vaccine by the autumn.

Welsh Government’s vaccination strategy was unveiled on Monday (January 11).

The coronavirus vaccine priority list

Vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca/Oxford University are currently in use across the UK, while a third vaccine, produced by American firm Moderna, was approved for use in the UK earlier this month.

Wales’ Health Minister, Vaughan Gething, said: “An enormous amount of work has gone into delivering what is the largest vaccination programme Wales has ever seen.

“Our plans are ambitious but together with the NHS, we are working incredibly hard to make sure people get their jabs as quickly and safely as possible.”

Vaccine Q&A: Government targets announced

Mr Gething added: “Vaccinations are life-saving and, in this pandemic, it could be life changing for all of us.

“However, as we speed up the rollout of vaccines across Wales, it’s more important than ever that we follow the rules and keep ourselves safe.

“That means staying at home and working from home; keeping our distance from others; washing our hands often, and if we do have to go out, wearing a face mask when we’re in public places.”
