A new scheme which aims to make it easier for people to voice their opinions on local walking and cycling routes has been launched.
An interactive travel map was launched in Caerphilly County Borough on Wednesday (February 3), which will allow residents to highlight areas where they would like to see improvements and share their ideas for potential new routes.
The Active Travel Network Map consultation is being run by Welsh Government.
The scheme has been launched in each local authority area in Wales, as part of efforts to encourage more people to walk or cycle.
The scheme will run until March 10.
Welsh Government’s deputy minister for transport, Lee Waters, said: “We want to tackle the many barriers that people face when considering whether to make their everyday journeys by walking and cycling.
“We have greatly stepped up investment in walking and cycling improvements over the last few years to ensure we have high quality infrastructure and will continue to do so.
“But this investment will only lead to people choosing to travel differently if it really meets their needs.”
Hefin David, Senedd Member for the Caerphilly constituency, said: “I’m glad that Welsh Government are showing a commitment to the investment in active travel.
“Many people have taken up cycling and walking through the lockdowns, so now is a good time to focus on improving local routes and to encouraging people to stick with these choices beyond the pandemic.
“If we listen to resident experience, this could have huge benefits across Wales; not just for physical health, but mental health, transport and the environment.
“I’ve been in touch with numerous constituents who have ideas around Caerphilly routes. If you would like to have your say, I would encourage you to do so through the map.”
