Tesco has planted 1,200 trees at its Caerphilly Crossways store as part of a national environmental and conservation scheme.
The supermarket giant, famed for its “Every Little Helps” tagline, is aiming to plant 100,000 trees across the UK by the end of next year.
The saplings, a mix of different fruit trees, have been planted in a clearing to the north of the car park.
In a press release promoting the planting, Tesco said the new woodland, once established, will remove up to 1,650kg of carbon from the air and will also improve wildlife habitat.
Alison Mcilvenny, store manager at Caerphilly Crossways, said: “It’s been great to see these saplings being planted outside the store, and we cannot wait to see them begin to grow.
“I think they will not only improve the green space around our store, but will hopefully have a positive impact on the local community and our environment for years to come.”
