Kevin Hallett has been jailed for three years and eight months

A burglar has been jailed after he targeted “vulnerable members of the community” during an “overnight crime spree”.

Kevin Hallett, 32, of Heol Fawr, Penyrheol, targeted flats at a United Welsh-run elderly people’s complex in New Tredegar.

The court also heard how Hallett burgled the home of an elderly and disabled woman in Tirphil.

Hallett pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary and two counts of attempted burglary, as well as stealing a mobile phone.

The crimes all took place on February 7 this year.

He appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on May 12, where he was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.

Gwent Police staff investigator Scott Thomas said: “Kevin Hallett targeted the homes of vulnerable members of the community in New Tredegar in an overnight crime spree.

“I would like to thank the victims and witnesses who came forward and provided the evidence that led to the prompt identification of Hallett.

“The early guilty plea is testament to the weight of evidence provided by the community.  I hope the sentence handed out by the court will go some way to offer the victims some comfort.”
