Caerphilly Miners’ Centre for the Community is looking for volunteers to help with its running.
The centre, which is based on the site of the former Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital, has appealed for new trustees.
The Miners’ reopened in its current form in 2015, and provides a host of activities such as language classes, knitting groups, arts and craft sessions, children’s activities and more. However, much of these activities are currently being held remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There ae also plans to provide office space for up to ten new businesses and social enterprises.
Currently, it has more than 50 volunteers covering a range of roles, such as stewarding, administration work, catering, gardening, fundraising and running projects.
During a visit to the centre in April, First Minister Mark Drakeford described it as a “fantastic resource for people in Caerphilly”.
In a post published on its website, the centre has said it is looking for people with knowledge in topics such as business development, IT, marketing and finance, as well as environmental issues.
As well as this, it is also looking for trustees who might not necessarily have knowledge in any of these fields – but take an interest in the local community and have good communication skills.
Currently, trustees meet online once a month.
Anyone interested in becoming a trustee can email a CV to secretary@caerphillyminerscentre.org.uk
