Coronavirus vaccine

People living in Wales who have been vaccinated against coronavirus will now be able to prove their vaccination status online, using the NHS Covid Pass.

This will allow people to prove they have been vaccinated before urgent international travel.

People aged 16 and above, who have had a coronavirus vaccine and were vaccinated in Wales, will be able to access the pass.

Vaccine certificates have been available in Wales since May, but they weren’t available online until June 25. Before now, people who needed proof of their vaccination status had to apply for paper certificates, which were sent out in the post.

But now, with the online system up and running, people will be able to access their certificates instantly through their phones, laptops or tablets.

However, the passes are not currently available through the NHS app, but through a website portal.

Vaccine passports available “within the next few days” in Wales

Responding to a question posed to him by Caerphilly MS Hefin David in the Senedd on Tuesday, First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “For technical reasons largely connected to the reconfiguration of the English solution to meet Welsh requirements, it was not possible to launch the app in Wales at the same time as it was launched in NHS England.”

The Welsh Government has confirmed that “work is ongoing to integrate England’s NHS App and NHS Wales systems to allow people in Wales to use it”.

Wales’ Health Minister, Eluned Morgan, said: “I’m pleased that people in Wales can now access their vaccination status via the NHS Covid Pass if they need to travel urgently and have completed their vaccine course.

“It’s important to remember that the Welsh Government advice on travel hasn’t changed, and people should only consider international travel if absolutely essential.”
