A former school worker, registered disabled after a spinal injury, is fighting Caerphilly County Borough Council to stop it placing boulders on a piece of scrubland used for parking.
Eileen Abako, 53, has lived at Central Houses, Trethomas, since 1999 and along with her neighbours uses a small strip of land on the street to park.
Caerphilly County Borough Council wants to stop people parking there, arguing the land is in a poor condition.
No parking is allowed directly outside her house as it is on Newport Road, but there are parking spaces across the road – however this presents a problem for Ms Abako.
Ms Abako, who has been registered disabled since 2009, said: “They expect me to cross a busy road where there have been many accidents. I have asked the council to make the land into a parking bay they have refused. We have offered to buy the strip of land but they have refused.”
She is due to meet council officers on Friday, August 6, to again argue her case – although she believes they have already made up their mind.
A Caerphilly County Borough Council spokesperson said: “The verge in question is part of the adopted highway and is in very poor condition and we must take action to maintain the land. We are aware of the issues raised by Ms Abako and a site visit has been arranged with Officers to explore and discuss all viable options.”
