Vaccination centre to open for walk-ins once again

Newbridge Leisure Centre will be opening up as a walk-in vaccination centre once again this weekend.

On Saturday, August 14, the leisure centre will be open to anyone aged 18 or over who is still waiting for their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Anyone who had their first AstraZeneca vaccine on or before June 19 will be able to attend.

The centre will be open between 10am and 4pm to people living in Caerphilly County Borough, Newport, Torfaen, Blaenau-Gwent and Monmouthshire.

Attendees will need to bring photo ID with them.

The leisure centre has been used as a vaccination centre since the end of January, taking over from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Ty Penallta headquarters in Tredomen, which was used as a vaccination centre at the beginning of the year.

In recent weeks, it has run numerous walk-in sessions for people still waiting for their vaccine.

Who has been vaccinated so far?

The percentage of people in Wales who have received their first and second vaccine is broken down below:

Care home residents: 98.1% first dose; 95.2% second dose

Care home workers: 93.5% first dose; 89.6% second dose

Healthcare workers: 96.5% first dose; 94% second dose

Social care workers: 45,661 first dose; 44,900 second dose

Aged 80 and above: 96.1% first dose; 94.8% second dose

Aged 75-79: 96.9% first dose; 95.9% second dose

Aged 70-74: 96.3% first dose; 95.4% second dose

Clinically extremely vulnerable people aged 16-69 : 94.5% first dose; 92.3% second dose

Aged 65-69: 95% first dose; 93.9% second dose

Clinical risk groups aged 16 to 64: 89.8% first dose; 85.7% second dose

Aged 60-64: 93.4% first dose; 91.8% second dose

Aged 55-59: 91.6% first dose; 89.6% second dose

Aged 50-54: 89.6% first dose; 87.1% second dose

Aged 40-49: 84.4% first dose; 79.9% second dose

Aged 30-39: 76.6% first dose; 67.1% second dose

Aged 18-29: 75.3% first dose; 58.2% second dose
