Residents living on a Caerphilly housing estate have been praised after organising a litter-pick.

More than 20 Lansbury Park residents have been clearing litter from around the estate over the past two weeks.

Residents approached Caerphilly County Borough Council to arrange the litter-picking sessions, to which the council responded by providing the necessary equipment to residents.

Lansbury Park resident Wayne George was among those taking part.

He said: “The children of Lansbury deserve the praise for this effort. It is testament to the parents who have raised these responsible youngsters.

“As a community, we are really proud of our young residents, who are leading the way and taking pride in their place.”

Mr George added: “I met with Sean Rees and the Caerphilly Cares Team who have shown us so much support to carry out our volunteering efforts, I cannot sing their praises enough. I hope this successful partnership continues.”

The Caerphilly Cares team, which is run by Caerphilly County Borough Council, is working with the council’s Waste Management Service, as well as Keep Wales Tidy, to support the volunteers and to plan future litter-picks and recycling events.

Councillor Nigel George, the council’s Cabinet Member for Waste, Public Protection and Street Scene, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to support residents to take part in the community clean up.

“The effort of the volunteers involved really demonstrates their commitment to making a difference in their community.”

Council Deputy Leader Jamie Pritchard also praised “the great community spirit” after a visit to Lansbury Park alongside council leader Philippa Marsden, council Cabinet Members and local ward councillors Christine Forehead and Elaine Forehead.

He said: “Its clear that there’s a great community spirit in Lansbury Park. The residents we spoke to care about their community.”
