Aber Railway Station in Caerphilly has reopened after repair work.

The station closed suddenly on Wednesday, August 25 after a ‘defect’ was spotted on the platform during an inspection.

Councillor Jamie Pritchard told Caerphilly Observer that parts of the platform edge had crumbled away, following a meeting he and fellow councillor Shayne Cook held with Transport for Wales engineers at the station on Thursday.

Trains continued to pass through the station, but didn’t stop there while it was closed.

Passengers needing to get on or off at the station were offered a replacement bus to and from Caerphilly railway station.

A spokesperson for Transport for Wales apologised for the inconvenience and said the station was closed for “essential repair work”.
