A new ice cream parlour could be coming to Caerphilly town centre.

A planning application has been submitted to open a new Fablas ice cream parlour in the former Carphone Warehouse unit at Castle Court Shopping Centre.

Lauren Evans, 25, started the Fablas ice cream business when she was 20-years-old, alongside her mother Michelle Evans.

The mother and daughter duo already have Fablas ice cream parlours in Cowbridge and Porthcawl, with another set to open in Penarth next year.

Lauren said she loved her job because “everyone comes in to an ice cream shop happy and everyone leaves even happier”.

Lauren, originally from the Vale of Glamorgan, said: “I do not see the point in having good quality ice cream and ruining it with bad toppings. If the application is approved, we will have chocolate taps and a huge range of delicious toppings available at the shop.”

Lauren said she has “absolutely no worries” about the success of the shop in Caerphilly because of the reception Fablas has had when it has set up at the Big Cheese festival and other events in previous years.

Lauren said she is hoping to go to Italy next year to learn more about gelato.

If the planning application is approved, the Caerphilly and Penarth parlours are expected to open in April 2022.

The ice cream parlour in Caerphilly will be open from 8am until 8pm Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays.

A decision on the application is expected to be made by the council by Wednesday, October 6.
