Scottish rugby club Hawick Harlequins RFC made their biannual touring trip to Bargoed this weekend as part of a 52-year tradition.
Two years ago, the Bargoed v Quins game was one of the last played in Wales before the first Covid lockdown.
Bargoed came out on top in the latest encounter, played on Friday, February 11, with the final score 40-12.
Luke Ellaway scored a hat-trick of tries, while Greg Callow twice crossed the try-line and Christian Cuss also got on the scoresheet.
The Quins had a number of over-35s in the squad including Ian McJenkins, who squeezed over for a try, while Bargoed man Adam McJones, who played for the tourists during the game, also grabbed a try.
The trip aligns with the Wales v Scotland Six Nations clash each year. Next year, Bargoed will be making the trip north of Hadrian’s Wall for a return fixture, having been unable to do so last year due to the pandemic.
On Saturday, February 19, Bargoed return to WRU National Championship action, where the league leaders will host Pontypool.
