A grass fire broke out near houses in Senghenydd on Wednesday evening

Firefighters have extinguished yet another grass fire in Caerphilly County Borough – this time in Senghenydd.

The fire was reported to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service at around 7.35pm on Wednesday and was extinguished just after 8pm.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.

This week alone, there have been grass fires in across the valley in Abertridwr, as well as in Mornington Meadows in Caerphilly and Brynawel, near Wattsville.

Over the weekend, a factory caught fire on the Heads of the Valley Industrial Estate in Rhymney, with a 23-year-old man from Nelson having since been arrested on suspicion of arson and burglary.

In a statement, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 7.35pm on Wednesday, March 23, we received reports of a grass fire in Senghenydd, Caerphilly.

“Firefighters from Caerphilly Station attended to extinguish the fire with fire beaters.

“A stop message was received at approximately 8:09pm.”
