Nearly 14,000 visitors descended on Caerphilly town centre last weekend as the Caerphilly Food Festival returned from a two-year hiatus.

It was the first time the Food Festival had taken place since February 2019, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Its return was marked by a record number of visitors.

On Saturday, May 7, Caerphilly town centre was transformed into a marketplace bursting with
life, with 70 food and craft stalls set up.

As well as cookery demonstrations, street entertainers roamed the festival throughout the day. There children’s funfair rides at the event.

Local businesses also benefited from the event, with extra footfall meaning visitors found their way into shops on the high street.

Management at cocktail bar The Aviary, on Cardiff Road, said they hit a personal best in sales during the event.

“It was a huge achievement for us because since opening in August 2020, we have been hit with obstacle
after obstacle.

“It was lovely to see our town centre full of life and laughter from local residents and people
from afar. It was great for all local businesses.”

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us today at The Twyn Community Centre ? and thank you to @CaerphillyCBC @Visitcaerphilly for allowing us to be a part of Caerphilly Food Festival 2022 ? pic.twitter.com/hUoWSWDPXC
