After a full year of fundraising, Logan Kemble will return to Germany for another round of life-changing treatment after being diagnosed with a vitamin K deficiency at just five-weeks-old.

Logan, from Abertridwr, underwent multiple surgeries after a bleed on the brain left him struggling to survive due to the deficiency.

Vitamin K is needed by the body for blood clotting – helping wounds heal. The surgery left Logan registered blind with a sensory processing disorder.

When Caerphilly Observer spoke to Logan’s mum, Antonia Kemble, back in April, Logan had recently returned from a private clinic in Germany that “recharged Logan’s damaged brain cells” as well as balance, speech and mobility through a two-week course of treatment.

The treatment brought a notable improvement to Logan’s life, with chances of further development a possibility if Logan returned to the clinic. This made Antonia more determined than ever to once again raise the £12,000 needed for another round of treatment.

She said: “Logan has been doing well. We’ve seen an improvement in his sight and the doctors are impressed.

“It’s never easy however. He still has his bad days but I’m really proud of him.

“The fundraising itself has gone really well, we held an event in Llanishen that raised some money and we reached our £12,000 target just a couple days ago.”

The pair are set to fly to Germany at the end of this month for two weeks as Logan will undergo ‘electoral stimulation treatment’. This can last between two and four hours a session as it targets damaged cells in his brain.

Antonia is hopeful for more improvements: “I’m excited but nervous. Logan does sometimes need restraining during treatment which is hard, but he did eventually calm down before.

She added, “we’d love to see improved sight and understanding more than anything. This should lead to better sleep which will be a great help as it’s often tiring for me.”

Now approaching his fourth birthday, Logan is beginning to experience some of the joys every little boy should, thanks to his treatment.

“He went to one of his friends birthday parties a couple weeks ago. Most parties he struggles to engage in due to his poor sight”, said Antonia.

She continued: “This was a ultra violet (UV) party however and Logan could actually see all the lights and colours, he was so happy it made me burst into tears.

“Without the help and support of everyone, none of this would be possible. I just want to say thank you more than anything.”
