Olympic gold medallist Lauren Price MBE was among the winners as the achievements of Caerphilly County Borough’s sportsmen and women were recognised at the Sport Caerphilly Awards.
Bryn Meadows in Maesycwmmer played host as boxer Price saw off competition from fellow boxer Gavin Gwynne and darts star and namesake Gerwyn Price, as well as Wales and Aston Villa footballer Natasha Harding, to clinch the award. More than 4,000 votes were cast to choose the winner.

The night, which got underway with a speech from BBC presenter Jason Mohammad, also saw success for Caerphilly Tennis Club – which won the Club of the Year award.
With more than 400 members in its ranks, the club was praised for its impact in the community.
Meanwhile, the club’s coach – Jonathan Morgan, bagged a brace of awards.

Coach Morgan was named Inclusive Coach of the Year for his work providing opportunities for both disabled and non-disabled players to engage with tennis.
He was also named Community Coach of the Year.
Meanwhile, Chris Cox, Sam Preece and Tomos Hooper, who are volunteers for the Disability Sport Volunteering Scheme, were recognised for their dedication to leisure centres.
Also seeing success on the night was Blackwood Cricket Club.
Emma Chalk, who runs the club’s youth section, was named Volunteer of the Year, while William Phillips won Young Volunteer of the Year for his work at the cricket club.


Other award winners on the night were Claire Chetland, Gareth Davis and David Gardiner – who all received a Lifetime Achievement award.



The awards were organised by Sport Caerphilly, which is run by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for Leisure, Cllr Chris Morgan, said: “I was delighted to see that the hard work of volunteers, coaches and the various teams involved were being rewarded.
“I was impressed by the professional way in which the event was organised and run by our in-house team – they did a fantastic job.
“Lastly, I would like to thank all of the local businesses that help support this event. Without the support of local businesses, we would be unable to run this event that inspires and recognises the effort of Caerphilly’s sportspeople.”
