An 83-year-old woman has been left with life-threatening injuries after she was attacked by a dog in Penyrheol.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

Two men, aged 21 and 30, and a 28-year-old woman, all from the Caerphilly area have been released on bail.

Police firearms officers were called to house in Heol Fawr, Penyrheol, at around 3.15pm on Saturday, December 3, following reports of a dog attack.

The dog was seized and put down. Gwent Police said its breed had not yet been confirmed.

The 83-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man were taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The woman suffered life-threatening injuries, while the man was said to have minor injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Sedgebeer said: “Officers will be making further enquiries at this time and will remain at the scene as the investigation progresses. It is possible that you may see ongoing police activity in Caerphilly as part of this work, but please do not be alarmed. If you have concerns or information then please do stop and talk with us.”

This latest incident has happened just over a year since ten-year-old Jack Lis was killed in another dog attack in Penyrheol.
