Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood are being staged this December

Pantomimes across the north of the borough this Christmas are helping to bring communities together.

Shows are taking place in Deri, Fochriw, Rhymney and Abertysswg this Christmas season. Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood: Dames in tights are being staged by various community organisations and community councils.

In Deri and Fochriw the performances have been funded by the Darran Valley community council and are free for people in the area.

The councillors handed out all of the tickets themselves on a first come first served basis. It was “a very positive” experience according to councillors as it was a real chance to meet the people they represent.

“It helped us connect with the community,” said chairman David Nicholas, who represents Deri.

The two pantomimes are being funded by money which went unspent during the summer due to covid.

People are responding positively, according to Cllr Robert Chapman who received feedback that it was “lovely that something was being put on for children”.

Other pantomimes will be taking place in Rhymney and Abertysswg. The pantomime in Abertysswg has partly been funded by the Rhymney Community Council.

Robin Hood will be performed in Rhymney on December 23 at 6.30pm at Rhymney RFC.

Sleeping Beauty will be performed in Abertysswg on December 27 at 5pm at  Abertysswg Working Men’s Club.

Sleeping Beauty will be playing in Deri Community Centre on December 28 at 13.30 pm.

Robin Hood will be playing in Fochriw Community Centre on December 30 at 13.30 pm.
