My Mountain Life by Simon Yates

As one of the most accomplished mountaineers of his generation, Simon Yates has conquered some of the world’s most challenging peaks.

On March 3, he will be speaking at Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall, offering a unique insight into his incredible adventures.

Yates is perhaps best known for his role in one of the most gripping and controversial mountaineering stories of all time: the ascent of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes.

In 1985, Yates and his climbing partner, Joe Simpson, became the first people to reach the summit via the west face. However, on the descent, Simpson suffered a serious injury, and Yates was forced to make a difficult decision that would change both of their lives forever.

Yates was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed.

Yates’ story of survival and endurance has inspired countless mountaineers and adventurers around the world. His gripping book, Touching the Void, which details the Siula Grande ascent, has become a classic of mountaineering literature, and his talks offer a rare opportunity to hear first-hand about his experiences on the world’s most challenging peaks.

At Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall, Yates will share stories from his incredible career, including his adventures in the Himalayas and the Antarctic. He will talk about the physical and mental challenges of climbing, as well as the rewards and risks involved in pursuing such an extreme passion.

For anyone with an interest in mountaineering, adventure, or human resilience, this is a talk not to be missed. Simon Yates’ experiences have tested him to the limit, and his insights into the world of high-altitude climbing are sure to be fascinating and inspiring. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of the most accomplished mountaineers of our time.

Tickets are available from Ents24.com at a cost of £12.65.
