The new play area at Llancaiach Fawr

A new outdoor play area has opened at council-owned tourism venue Llancaiach Fawr Manor near Nelson.

The new area was paid for with £35,000 of funding from Welsh Government, after a successful application from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Following a tender process, Sutcliffe Play Ltd was awarded the contract and the park is now ready for use.

Outdoor areas at the 17th century manor house have also been enhanced with new benches, a new gate entrance to the meadow and planting around the site.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, the council’s deputy leader and cabinet member with responsibility for tourism, said: “The new play area is a fantastic addition to one of the county borough’s much-loved visitor attractions.

“Young adventurers can now travel back in time at the manor house, before letting off some steam in the outdoors.”

Council-owned tourism venues, including Llancaiach Fawr, recently had their budgets cut by £250,000 for 2023/24.
