The second oldest agricultural show in Wales celebrated its 150th anniversary over the weekend.
Around 250 people showed up for an event at Church Farm, Mynyddislwyn, on Saturday March 25 to mark the anniversary of the Bedwellty Show.
The day consisted of a traditional ploughing and hedging demonstration, which is when trees are bent and weaved together to make a living fence.
Chairman of the Bedwellty Agricultural Society, Glyn Davies, said: “The original show actually began in March 1873 so that’s why we’re celebrating it now before the actual show in August.
“We thought it would be a nice touch to do it now. Plus the hedging and ploughing demo we did needed to happen in the spring.”

The show itself, which was originally held in Blackwood, will take place later this year on August 19 at Llancaiach Fawr, near Nelson.
The family-friendly day consists of tractor and vintage car displays, trade stands and craft stalls, as well as the usual livestock.
Mr Davies spoke to Caerphilly Observer about what the event means to him: “I’ve been a part of this community all my life as was my father before me.”

“It can be stressful to sort everything out in time for the show, but this year should be a special one. I’m asking people with any old pictures or trophies to let me know and bring them along in August.”
