Stagecoach South Wales has appointed a new managing director following the departure of Nigel Winter after eight years in the role.
Martin Gibbon, who is currently operations director at the company’s West England and Oxford branch, will start his new role in May.
Mr Gibbon joined Stagecoach as a graduate trainee in 2011, initially spending his time in south Wales before moving onto a number of roles across the UK.
He will be responsible for around 750 employees and more than 100 bus services in his new job.
Mr Gibbon said: “Our transport services play a critical role in connecting south Wales and I look forward to working with my team, our partners and stakeholders to unlock the environmental, social and economic benefits that bus services deliver.
“I’m also looking forward to meeting our drivers and customers, as well as key stakeholders, and working collaboratively with them to rebuild from the challenges that the industry and region have faced in recent years.”
Paul Lynch, Regional Director for Stagecoach London and Wales, said: “We’re pleased that our customers, stakeholders and colleagues in South Wales will be able to benefit from Martin’s extensive experience of running bus and coach services across the country.
“This is a fantastic and well-deserved move for Martin and it’s always good to see one of our own leaders develop and progress in the business.”
He added: “I would also like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank Nigel Winter for his continued efforts over the past eight years leading the South Wales team and 17 years in Stagecoach.
“We wish him all the very best for the future.”
