A young filmmaker from Caerphilly has been named among the winners at an annual film competition in Portsmouth.

Benjamin Phillips, who is in his second year at the University of Winchester, won alongside fellow-students Benjamin Dunks and Ollie Trowern, who he worked with on the film Where Did We Park?

The four-minute film follows the trials and tribulations of two men who get lost in the woods when they forget where their car is parked.

The trio won the audience award at the Making Waves Future BAFTA Winners Short Film Competition.

Competition judges described the their entry as “the most innovative out of all the films and a very funny concept well executed”.

Serial killers, detectives and aeroplanes – the award-winning documentary film company with roots in Ystrad Mynach

The film was screened in front of an audience of more than 100 people and beat submissions from other universities in the area to win the award.

The students said: “It was great to be a part of something where we were able to exhibit work which we are very proud of and excited about.

“It’s an incredible experience being recognised for the hard work we put into Where Did We Park? and it’s an exciting start to our careers as filmmakers.”

The trio received a handmade award following their win, alongside a £75 Pizza Express gift voucher.
