The damaged BMW on Commercial Road

A gas pipe in Machen has been hit and damaged after a car crashed into it, Gwent Police has confirmed.

The crash happened on Commercial Road, Machen, at around 7.45pm on Tuesday April 4.

A damaged grey BMW remains at the scene on Commercial Road, where Gwent Police officers have closed the section of road between Machen Pharmacy and Machen Primary School.

There are diversions in place across The Crescent.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision involving a car in Commercial Road, Newport, at around 7.45pm on Tuesday April 4.

“Officers attended to support with traffic management and public safety, along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Wales and West Utilities.

“The collision involved one car and an external gas pipe was damaged.”
