Man released after Fochriw Road crash as police continue to investigate

Fochriw Road

A 27-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil has been released by Gwent Police after he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Gareth Davies, 43, from Rassau, near Ebbw Vale, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at around 5.50am on Thursday April 13 near Fochriw.

Mr Davies’ next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. He was driving a Renault Clio which was in a crash with a Ford Ka on Fochriw Road.

The driver of the Ka received minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “Officers investigating the collision want to speak to any motorists who were travelling on Fochriw Road between 5am and 5.30am on Thursday April 13, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to contact us.
