Gwent Police is appealing for information

The family of a 66-year-old Nelson man who died after being hit by a car last week have paid tribute.

Paul Chaplin, known as Shady, died at the scene on Tuesday April 18.

The incident happened on the road coming off Ty Du Road, towards Whitebean Court Industrial Estate, Nelson, at around 5.15pm.

In a tribute released through Gwent Police, Mr Chaplin’s family said: “We as a family are heartbroken and left with a massive hole in our heart and lives that will never be filled.

“Taken far too soon, our rock, our world, our everything.

“Our family would like to thank the Emergency services for everything they did. We will forever be grateful.”

The collision involved a red Peugeot 207 and a black Kia Ceed.

A 25-year-old man from the Caerphilly area and a 25-year-old from the Rumney area were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They have both been released under investigation.

Motorists with dashcam footage of the area between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on April 18 have been urged by police to come forward.

Gwent Police can be contacted on 101 or through direct message on Facebook or Twitter, quoting log 2300124293.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
