A seven-year-old boy has been left with stitches after he and a friend were attacked by dog in Graig y Rhacca.

Police were called to the estate on Monday afternoon and it is understood the dog has been put down after being seized by officers.

The latest attack comes after a five-month-old baby was attacked by a dog in Penyrheol on Saturday April 29.

Chelsea Colwill told BBC Wales that her son Rory, five, and his best friend Connor, seven, were outside when they were “pounced on” by the dog. She said the dog acted like the boys were “a piece of meat” and together with Connor’s mother Kylie Jones had to drag them away from the dog.

Connor needed stitches to his leg and both boys were left traumatised with Connor afraid to go near other dogs.

Baby attacked by dog

This latest attack in Graig y Rhacca came just days after a 15-month-old baby was hospitalised on Saturday April 29 and follows two other fatal attacks.

Ten-year-old Jack Lis who attended Cwm Ifor Primary School, died on November 8, 2021, after being attacked at a friend’s house on Pentwyn, Penyrheol.

Jack was killed by an XL American Bully called Beast, which was shot dead by firearms officers after the attack.

Amy Salter, 29, of Llanfabon Drive, Trethomas, and Brandon Hayden, 19, of Pen y Bryn in Penyrheol, were jailed in June last year in connection with Jack’s death.

Jack’s mother Emma Whitfield has since been leading a campaign for reform of the laws surrounding dog ownership.

In December last year, 83-year-old Shirley Patrick died as a result of injuries suffered in an attack at her home in Heol Fawr.
