Rhymney Gwent Bowls Club is holding an open day to attract new members and encourage locals to come and use the space.
Adults and children of all ages and abilities are welcome to come and try out the sport on Sunday May 21 at the Bowls Green in War Memorial Park, Rhymney, from 1pm to 6pm.
Club president Noel Tippett told Caerphilly Observer: “We want to try and attract new members.
“We were in crisis last year,” he continued, “I could see a problem looming because we just didn’t have the players.”
After losing six players, the club held an open day and gained four regular members – they hope to replicate their success this time around too.
“We’re in the process of building now,” Noel said, adding that the club has players as young as nine who are getting involved.
The club hopes to have similar success this time around.

“There’ll be coaching on the bowling green, sunshine and refreshments,” said Noel, “people can come up and enjoy a carnival atmosphere.”
Rhymney Bowls Club was founded in 1926 and is based at War Memorial Park.
Noel explained the club’s future plan is for the bowls pavilion to be a space for the community to use.
He said: “I want the pavilion to be part of the community,” adding that they have now linked with Cwtsh, which helps promote wellbeing activities in the area.
Noel added that anyone was welcome at anytime: “Come up and have a coffee and a talk,” he said.
There is no need to book to take part in the open day, with equipment provided. However, flat shoes are recommended.
