The funds come from Pen y Bryn Oer Wind Farm fund

Community projects in Rhymney can apply for the next round of funding from the Pen y Bryn Oer Wind Farm fund.

The Community Benefit Fund is open to projects which are for the benefit of residents within the community council areas of Rhymney and Tredegar.

Applications will close on September 6 with decisions made by the end of November.

There is £30,000 available in grants each year to be split equally between the two community council areas.

Groups can apply for grants between £250 and £7,500 – though grants over £2,000 are rarely awarded.

One recent recipient of the grant was Rhymney Valley Foodbank, which was awarded a £4,000 grant in November 2022.

Rhymney Valley Foodbank previously received a grant

Speaking previously to Caerphilly Observer, Steve Jones, food bank operations manager, said the money was a very welcome addition at a time when people were struggling.

“It’s going to help people in the hardest of times,” said Steve, “we’re in a worse state now than in the depths of the pandemic,” he said.

This was reflected in the amount which was awarded, with the organisation receiving double the £2,000 it originally applied for.
