Velindre’s Castle 2 Castle charity run is returning this September.

The run sees participants of all abilities run 11 miles, starting at Caerphilly Castle and finishing at Cardiff Castle.

It is being held to raise money for Velindre Cancer Charity.

Organisers have announced it is being held on Sunday September 10 – the same day as Caerphilly town welcomes the final stage of the Tour of Britain.

The first Castle 2 Castle run was held in 2017 by organisers of Caerphilly’s annual Megaday music festival.

In 2018, Velindre took direct control of the organisation and it has so far raised more than £130,000 for The charity.

The event has been organised alongside Caerphilly Runners, with Bedwas-based Peter’s Pies sponsoring the run.

Kylie McKee, deputy head of fundraising at Velindre, said: “We’re so excited to see the Castle 2 Castle event return this year, bigger and better than ever.

“We’re so grateful to have long-time supporters Peter’s on board as headline sponsors. With lots of their staff community planning to take part, we hope their support will help us deliver a much better event and raise more than ever for cancer patients and their families in south Wales.

“We may even see a special appearance from Pete the Pie taking on our very own Lomu the Lion.”

Mike Grimwood, managing director of Peter’s, said: “The event is not only fun for the community but raises funds for an incredible charity, Velindre.

“With our own staff community of over 600 local people, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer and who has been supported by Velindre. The work they do is life changing and we are proud to support them.

“We will be putting our full support behind this event to make it the best ever and raise even more funds for this deserving cause.”

Entries for the run opened on June 21. Visit Velindre’s website or email castle2castle@velindrefundraising.com to find out more.
