Ty’n y Wern Primary School has raised more than £1,500 for a pupil so he can learn how to ride a bike.

Seven-year-old Zac Davies was born with his left arm shorter than his right, meaning a traditional bicycle was impossible for him to ride.

Headteacher at Ty’n y Wern, Sophie Goodliffe, said it is the school’s goal to get every child to ride a bike before they leave and that Zac was “no exception”.

With this in mind, the school launched their Cycle 4 Zac campaign, where pupils teamed up with Pedal Power, a charity that adapt bikes for people with a range of disabilities.

Due to the costs involved, the school worked with local football club Trethomas Bluebirds, who invited Zac and his classmates to the charity football match between themselves and Manchester United Legends.

Ms Goodliffe said: “Trethomas came to the school to meet with the children and show them the trophy they won.

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming former Man Utd and Cardiff City player @Dbrazil5 to our school. The children were so excited and asked some fantastic questions. Thank you so much to Dave and @TreBluebirdsFC for making it all happen. #inspired #communitylinks pic.twitter.com/FFYPr4TNUJ

“Chairman Dave Evans met Zac and said the club would love to help them out and invited a load of the kids and staff along today to watch and meet the players.”

Asked about some of the costs involved in making the bike, Ms Goodliffe added: “It’s hard to say right now as we’re trialing different models but we’d like to raise enough to have a few different bikes as Zac continues to grow.

Wow what an amazing day we had with @TreBluebirdsFC Not only did some of pupils get to meet both sets of players but they also helped us to raise over £1500 for our #Cycle4Zac appeal. A massive thank you to the whole community ?? @derekbrazil1412 @sport_leisure @TreBluebirdsFC pic.twitter.com/w1Ou6eodOC

“We’ve raised loads today however and it’s been great for the pupils who are big into football.”
