The Melody Makers choir is holding a gala concert

The Melody Makers choir will be hosting a gala concert this week in honour of its late founder, Lyn Cushing.

Lyn, who founded the choir in 2007, passed away in March 2020. She was integral in planning and fundraising efforts for the new breast care unit at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017.

The concert is being held on Friday July 7,

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children on the door, while a raffle will also be held.

All money raised from the raffle will go towards the breast unit.

Lyn Cushing founded the Melody Makers in 2007

The concert will mark the first time the Melody Makers has been able to pay tribute to Lyn since the pandemic.

The choir will perform a range of music, including a specially commissioned piece written in memory of Lyn, by local composer Dan Phelps – with words written by the choir members themselves.

There will also be performances from Caerphilly Male Voice Choir, Lewis Girls School Choir and Hengoed Primary School Choir.

The event will get underway at 7pm at Lewis Girls School in Ystrad Mynach.
