Blackwood Beach Party drew record footfall in 2023
Blackwood Beach Party has drawn record footfall this year

More than 7,000 visitors arrived in Blackwood as the town held its annual beach party over the weekend – a record footfall for the event.

The free to attend event, held on Saturday July 8, saw Blackwood transformed into an urban beach party, with sand, deckchairs and buckets and spades to keep the whole family entertained.

Funded by Blackwood Town Council and organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, the event also featured donkey rides, funfair rides, food and drink stalls and more.

The event saw nearly 2,400 more visitors to the town than the previous Saturday.

Caerphilly Council deputy leader Jamie Pritchard, who is the cabinet member for prosperity, regeneration and climate change, hailed the event a success.

Cllr Pritchard said: “It is the highest footfall we have on record for the Blackwood Beach Party, which again shows how popular the events programme is for residents.

“Our thanks go to everyone who came along to make the day very enjoyable”.

It was the first time the beach party had been held in Blackwood since 2019, having been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was meant to be held last September, but was cancelled following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
