Javelin thrower Hollie Arnold MBE has won gold at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris.
The win was Arnold’s fifth F46 javelin title in a row – and Great Britain’s fourth gold medal win at the championships.
She threw a season’s best of 41.06m in the process.
Originally from Grimsby, Arnold, who was born without her right forearm, lived in Ystrad Mynach as a teenager.
The 29-year-old has competed in four Paralympic Games, having won gold with two record-breaking throws in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
She won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, which were held in 2021 following the Covid-19 pandemic. However, she missed out on gold in Japan after being overtaken by two rivals in the final round.
Speaking to BBC Sport after her win on Wednesday July 12, Arnold said: “It feels amazing to win again ten years after my first world title.
“I was heartbroken after Tokyo but that just ignited the fire within me.
“Coming here to retain my title and throw the furthest I have since 2019, I am so happy.
“It was close all through but I just knew today was mine and I was going to fight for it and I am so so glad.
“I wasn’t going to give up without a fight.”
