Gwent Police are recruiting volunteer special constables

Gwent Police is asking members of the public to volunteer as special constables.

The volunteers will be given uniforms and equipment and have full warranted police powers.

The force is looking to recruit those who are able to volunteer at least 16 hours a month, with flexible hours available.

The role involves working alongside and supporting regular police officers during patrols, responding to reported incidents and helping the public.

Volunteers will be invited for an interview and if successful, will have fitness, biometric, and medical tests, as well as a drugs test.

Successful applicants will then be put through training on set dates, covering topics such as safety, first aid, legislation and more.

The initial training course will cover a full week. This will be followed by 12 weeks where training takes place over the weekend and on one weekday per week.

After training is complete, the volunteers will be deployed as an operational officer working from a station.

Visit the police website for more information.
