The attack happened on Newport Road

A 51-year-old man is in hospital with head and chest injuries following an assault in Cwmcarn.

Gwent Police responded to a call at approximately 10pm on Saturday July 29 on Newport Road.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection to the incident. He was charged with wounding with intent, common assault, and possession of a bladed article.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear in Newport Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday August 2).

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the assault happened outside the Cwmcarn Hotel. Gwent Police said the original report it received was about an incident outside a pub, but has since confirmed the attack took place further down Newport Road, towards the institute.

Caerphilly Observer would like to apologise to the owners of Cwmcarn Hotel for this error.
