Bus firm Stagecoach has unveiled seven new buses worth £750,000 to travel between Blackwood and Cardiff.

The new low-floor single-deck ‘Enviro 200’ buses will operate on the 26 route – which the bus company has increased from every hour to every half hour.

The higher frequency service will run between Blackwood, Ystrad Mynach, Llanbradach, Caerphilly, Nantgarw, Tongwynlais, Whitchurch, and Cardiff between Monday and Saturday and operate every two hours on a Sunday.

John Gould, managing director of Stagecoach in South Wales, said: “The introduction of seven brand new, low-floor buses is one of the biggest investments recently in public transport in the area.

“We believe that this enhancement will deliver a much-needed boost for bus provision in South Wales, and also play a vital role in sustaining the environment. Our message to residents along this route is simple – leave your car at home and ‘just go’ by Stagecoach instead.”

The new buses were unveiled on Monday at Blackwood bus station by Caerphilly County Borough Mayor Vera Jenkins and Conservative AM for South Wales East William Graham.

Mr Graham, who is also the Shadow Minister for Local Government, said: “This investment to enhance the No 26 service from Blackwood to Cardiff clearly demonstrates Stagecoach’s commitment to extending public transport to all members of our communities and providing environmentally friendly travel.

The Mayor, Cllr Vera Jenkins said the buses will play a key part in the development of the area by providing closer links to Cardiff.

She added: “The introduction of this brand new fleet of buses is great news for local residents, especially for those who have mobility problems or parents with pushchairs, as the new lower floors make it so much easier to get on.”

This statement by the Caerphilly CBC Mayor, god bless her, really is a contradiction, what it will do, and which is good for the citizens of the borough, is, allow them easier access to Cardiffs shopping experience, this should help Bargoed, Blackwood and Caerphilly shopping centres thrive beyond all recognition (SIC)
