GCSE students across Caerphilly County Borough have received their exam results today (Thursday August 24).
The percentage of results between grades A* to C across Wales is at 64.9% – a decrease on last year’s 68.6%.
Meanwhile, the percentage of results marked at A* and A grades is 21.7% – a decrease on figures from 2022, 2021 and 2020 – but still higher than pre-Covid figures in 2019.
In both 2020 and 2021, grades were awarded based on teacher predictions as the pandemic disrupted the education system. However, summer exams came back last year.
Wales’ education minister, Jeremy Miles, congratulated pupils on their results and said: “You should all be proud of reaching this important milestone in your education.
“I welcome these results as our journey continues back to pre-pandemic arrangements.
“It’s inspiring to see what our learners have achieved. These learners have had to face immense challenges impacting on their learning opportunities over the past few years as they’ve progressed through their secondary schooling and onto their GCSEs.”
Mr Miles thanked education workers for their “hard work and dedication” and added: “Don’t be too disappointed or hard on yourself if things didn’t quite go to plan today.
“Working Wales is a great place for you to discover the choices you have available to you to plan your next steps, or speak to your school for advice and support.”
Meanwhile, St Martin’s School in Caerphilly reported its best ever GCSE results this year.
Headteacher Lee Jarvis said: “We are proud beyond words, not only of our students but of the teachers, support staff and parents that have worked in close partnership together over many years to make these achievements possible.”
Last week, A-level pupils received their exam results.
