A charity walk in aid of Parkinson’s UK Cymru is being held in Cardiff next month.

The walk, which takes place in Bute Park on October 8, is aiming to raise money to help fund vital research to find better treatments and a cure for the condition.

The event includes a range of distances for walkers to tackle, including a family-friendly two-mile route, as well as a six-mile route for those wanting more of a challenge.

Walkers will warm up together, walk together, and finish together as they start and finish at Bute Park Visitors Centre with other walkers.

There will be a variety of Parkinson’s information stalls and local Parkinson’s groups available at the walk, which will also include entertainment.

Keri McKie, regional fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK Cymru, said: “Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. In Wales there are around 7,000 people living with the condition.

“Every hour, two more people in the UK are diagnosed, meaning one in 37 people alive today will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s in their lifetime”.

She continued: “There’s no cure for Parkinson’s yet. But if we walk together, we can raise the funds to make a difference to the lives of people with Parkinson’s. We can make significant scientific breakthroughs that can help improve treatment of the condition and we can find a cure.

“Whatever your age or fitness level, we’d love to see you at Cardiff to Walk for Parkinson’s. Take the first step and sign up today.”

It costs £12 to sign up for the walk, with under-18s allowed to take part for free.

There is no minimum sponsorship required to take part either, with walkers receiving a fundraising pack with tips and advice, sponsorship forms and a t-shirt to wear on the day.

To sign up to the walk or to volunteer on the day, visit the Parkinson’s UK website or email Keri Mckie at kmckie@parkinsons.org.uk.
