A 20-year-old man was hospitalised following a collision near Machen on Saturday night.

The incident, which involved one car, happened on the A468 at around 11pm on September 9.

The occupants of the car fled the scene before officers arrived, Gwent Police said.

Two men, aged 20, were later arrested and then de-arrested, Gwent Police has confirmed.

However, a man was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving.

Another 20-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

The A468 was closed in both directions at the turning into Waterloo following the incident. It reopened on Sunday morning.

Anyone with information, or CCTV or dashcam footage, can contact Gwent Police on 101, or through direct message on Facebook or Twitter, quoting log reference 2300305811.

This article was amended to clarify that two men were arrested, and then de-arrested by officers. According to human rights group Liberty, police can de-arrest a person if an officer believes there is no reason to keep them under arrest.
