St David's Hospice is set to open its new charity shop in Machen this month
St David’s Hospice Care opened its latest charity shop in Machen last month

St David’s Hospice Care has apologised for turning people away from its Machen shop when attempting to donate items.

After opening its doors in August this year, the the charity has been criticised on social media for turning away would-be donators outright, before inspecting their items.

When asked about these claims, chief executive officer for the charity, Emma Saysell, said: “There was a little bit of confusion in the first week with a new manager.

“We’d like to say that we’re really sorry to anyone who was turned away, and would like to make it clear that all donations are accepted.”

The shop on Commercial Road, next door to the Co-op, is the former venue of Seasons Coffee House, which shut down due to rising costs earlier this year.

Ms Saysell added: “We’re grateful for any and all donations and we’d like to thank the residents of Machen for their support.”
