Schools are being given a share of £20m Welsh Government funding to support children with disabilities or additional learning needs.

The funding, which covers the 2023/24 academic year, has been announced by education minister Jeremy Miles, with plans to improve inclusivity, create quiet or sensory areas, and buy new specialist equipment.

The funding will also go towards improving Welsh language provision, and is in addition to the £20m funding for the 2022/23 academic year.

Caerphilly’s Labour Senedd Member, Hefin David, welcomed the funding and said: “As many people know, my daughter is autistic, so this is a cause which is very close to my heart on a personal level.

“This money will make a big difference in schools and allow staff to adapt their environments further, in order to better support the children they work with.”

Dr David continued: “I will continue to work with constituents and Welsh Government on improving support for children and families with additional learning needs, wherever I can.”
