Bargoed residents are invited to discuss the pros and cons of their town centre and play their part in its possible regeneration.
Residents can take part in the “Bargoed Town Centre Tomorrow” conversation by submitting their feedback – both positive and negative – through online discussion boards and email.
This feedback will form part of a “placemaking plan” that will forge a long-term plan for the town for the next ten to 15 years.
The plan, run by the Urbanists and commissioned by Caerphilly County Borough Council, asks residents to provide feedback on questions such as: “What makes Bargoed special?” and “How could we improve the town centre?”.
Placemaking is a hands-on approach to improving a town, city, or region which allows residents and businesses to have a say in reinventing public spaces.
It is a process which aims to use residents’ knowledge to identify what is unique about a place and recommend projects and investments to strengthen the area.
The placemaking plan will “allow the council to apply for funding that can be spent for the regeneration of Bargoed town centre,” according to the Bargoed Placemaking Plan Conversation document, which is available online.
There is another placemaking plan taking place in the borough, with Blackwood residents also invited to give feedback on their town centre.
The Urbanists are also in various stages of working with six other local authorities on placemaking plans including Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.
Caerphilly Observer has contacted Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Urbanists for comment.
