The Gatehouse in Caerphilly town centre
Consurio Lounge will open its doors later this year

‘Consurio Lounge’ – Welsh for ‘conjuring’ – will open in Castle Court Shopping Centre this December, restaurant chain Loungers has confirmed.

Loungers has been renovating the former Gatehouse cafe-bar, which closed in June 2023 due to financial pressures.

The site had previously been occupied by Glanmor’s tea room, which closed in 2020.

Consurio Lounge will be open “all day” according to the company, and provide breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and drinks, to a “relaxed and welcoming space”.

A spokesperson from Loungers added: “A real home from home, Consurio Lounge will cater for all tastes throughout the day with a varied and innovative menu.

“Particular attention will be paid to families with a selection of games, books, colouring pencils and pads on offer. A full menu, high chairs and baby-changing facilities will also be available.

“With community and neighbourhood at its heart, Consurio Lounge will welcome locals looking for a space for regular catch ups, meetings and events – everything from business networking, book or knitting clubs to parent and baby meets and life drawing classes.”

Loungers community manager Gemma Irwin said: “We’re so looking forward to opening the doors of Consurio Lounge in December. We hope our family friendly environment and top-notch food and drink offering will prove popular with local residents.”

She continued: “We’re passionate about integrating genuinely into the communities we serve so we’re looking forward to meeting everyone and to playing our part at the heart of Caerphilly’s food and drink scene.

“Anyone looking for a space to host events or groups should pop in once we’re open, we’d love to hear from them and see what we can do to help.”

The Lounge is still looking for staff, with more information on how to join on their website.
