Gerwyn Price has crashed out of the Grand Slam of Darts after losing to Gary Anderson in the last 16.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Price, from Markham, fell to a 10-6 defeat to the Scotsman in Wolverhampton on Wednesday November 15.
Anderson, a two-time runner-up in the competition, saw off eight 180s and a 103 average from Price to storm into the quarter-finals.
“There’s life in the old dog yet,” joked Anderson, who averaged 104.96 to set up a quarter-final showdown against Luke Humphries.
“Gerwyn has been playing very well. Hitting 110 and 112 averages is a hard job to do, but I’ve hit a 102 and now a 104, so we’re getting there.
“I’m playing well on the practice board, I’m playing well on the floor, and that was the most comfortable I’ve felt on the stage for a while.”
Price reached the last 16 after topping Group D, ahead of Ryan Searle, Nathan Rafferty and Gian van Veen.
The encounter between the pair was a repeat of the 2018 final, in which Price won his first ever Grand Slam title.
However, that fiery encounter five years ago led to Price being fined £21,500 and handed a three-month suspended ban for his behaviour during the game, while Anderson was given a formal warning after pushing Price.
Meanwhile, Anderson was Price’s opponent in the dramatic World Championship final in 2021 – which saw Price become world champion for the first time.
