Gerwyn Price lifts the Sid Waddell Trophy after winning the PDC World Championships in 2021

Gerwyn Price will face either Connor Scutt or Krzysztof Kciuk in his opening match at this year’s World Darts Championships.

The annual competition, which is the biggest on the darts calendar, is being held at London’s Alexandra Palace once again this year.

It gets underway on December 15 and concludes on January 3.

2021 world champion Price, from Markham, will go into the competition ranked fifth on the PDC Order of Merit. Englishman Scutt is ranked 71st while Kciuk, from Poland, is ranked 90th.

Fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton, from Carmarthenshire, goes into the competition ranked ninth in the Order of Merit. He will face either world number 58 Steve Lennon or world number 121 Owen Bates.

Reigning world champion Michael Smith will begin his title defence against either Kevin Doets or Stowe Buntz.

The draw for the competition was made on Monday November 27, with the schedule of play yet to be confirmed.
